Grief

Comes in the night like a thief

stealing my joy leaving me numb

tears overflowing

exhausted by the sadness

my loved ones lives are nearing the end

I pray that they will not suffer or know pain

and so life’s journey begins its ending

memory lapses, dulled senses, unable to see, hear, read or write – communication comes in the form of food, a hug, a squeeze, a kiss and if we’re lucky, a hearty laugh

the Treasures left behind are the memories we cling to – thank God for the stories, the photos, the letters and poems we will all cherish until it’s our turn

God, Jesus, Mary and the Holy Spirit be with them, be with those we love who are nearing their return home

welcome them with open arms to where we all once began as one.
