Once upon a time

in October

the lanterns were lit

pumpkins carved

marigolds flourished

pond overflowed

red bud trees turn green, yellow and brown

it’s a time of decay and renewal

the sourwood stands at attention brilliant red with gold tassels up top

the Japanese maple – deep red – neither tree are ready to say farewell

so …

once upon a time for a nanosecond maybe more – the earth and water stood still

So still the leaf laid on top.

Autumn approaches

Crickets chirp in the early morning hours

birds song follows as morning sun rises

leaves scatter the ground beneath the cherry tree

Autumn approaches

Autumn

Autumn morning

a time for personal reflection, when the morning light is dim, crickets are all I hear, until the wind begins, once the sunlight appears, colours come to life again….
