No Longer Living Behind the Veil

Exposed, vulnerable, scars are deep – some go unseen – just look in the eyes of another – the terror and torture of mind and body no longer hidden – beckons for love and light

Slowly she heals, one scar at a time with rhythm and rhyme

clock tick tocks- life marches on in the dark – glints of reason, art and season percolate in mind and heart

paper and pen flow within formulating words of comfort and glim

time is of the essence or so it seems until the pendulum swings back to start

healing takes time – be gentle they say – the ones who’ve trodden this road before – the ones whose hearts move like the sea gliding over the sandy shore –

healing takes time and this time is reminiscent of a time long ago, a time that only the soul knows ~ Anita Adams 6/8/2019

Let it Go!

It’s okay to be angry !

Write about It.

Let It out.

Don’t bottle It up.

It doesn’t like It.

Treat It like a tea kettle.

Monitor Its heat.

Allow the steam to come out slowly until the heat becomes a hiss and a hiss a whistle, then a quiet hiss.

Let it go.

Sometimes It simmers.

Don’t stuff It with a sock, or beat It up with a rock.

Make friends with the angry one – the It.

Afterall, the angry one was once the kind one and the kind one was once the angry one. You see, they are one in the same. They were both an It.

Make peace with both.

Afterall, they’re both human.

It’s okay to be angry as long as peaceful resolutions evolve.

Let It go like the tea kettle – nice and slow.

Let It all go before the head falls to the pillow, before the feet touch the floor.

Let It go!

Let it Go! – Like the songbirds flying into the wind!

Sounds and Sights of Spring

Bluejays, cardinals, mockingbirds, bluebirds, finches, doves and crows grace the backyard oasis on the first day of spring.

Blooming yellow forsythia and a bank of periwinkle with a Lenten rose in full bloom surround the waterfall as the goldfish swim in the pond below.

Grateful for ears that hear and eyes that see.

Grateful for Spring and all that spring brings.

Looking for a Word

It’s cold and damp this February morning in the Appalachia mountains – bluejays, cardinals and squirrels are confused by the signs of a very early Spring – scattered with drops of freezing temperatures.

I, too, feel somewhat confused by the seasons lack of consistency . Winter is a necessary part of nesting, creative percolating – a time that’s been interrupted by an climate change.

Will the Spring come too soon and all be destroyed with the many frosts that should be forthcoming?

The word is a question and question is the word.

dreams of tomorrows

or playing in a stream

treasures abound

water glistening with jewels

waiting to be discovered

flowing dresses, sandals and sun-kissed lemonade

mint, lavender, sage and basil

fragrances rich and thick as fresh laundry blowing on the line

In search of joy

Asking and receiving

through prayer and meditation

Noticing when it’s here

with eyes open

How to step into it

by dropping all else and being fully present in the moment

To recognize it

and open my eyes and heart wide

To feel it deep within my being

and stay with it as long as possible

To embrace it with my whole being

as I would any friend or loved one

As if … I were a child again

Kindness …

Max Patch Family Love

Never to be underestimated.

Those who are kind, do so out of this special place in their heart.

I’ve met a few people in my life, and recognize the difference between genuine love given (kindness) from those seeking something in return for a favor done.

The difference is this…

… no expectation of a gift of any kind in return. Friendship remains intact and conversations and interactions continue to carry with them their natural rhythm, playfulness, joy, sorrow, triumphs, losses and love.

I’ve given to many people in my lifetime without remembering who or what, and upon occasion, one of these persons will come back to me and say, ‘Hey, thanks again, just wanted to give this back to you.’ I look at them and say, I don’t remember giving this to you. It makes me feel good to give without expectation of something in return. Occasionally, when I can get away with it and have a few extra dollars, I will buy the persons coffee behind me in the coffee line, or bring someone flowers to someone who isn’t expecting anything but my presence. It’s a gift of love and kindness.

May the year ahead be full of unexpected gifts at an unexpected time.

How do you celebrate your Holy days?

It’s Christmas Eve! People rush around in America buying gifts spending way too much money and why? Because our culture pumps money into advertising and marketing. It’s all about more! It’s commercialism!

What does your Holy days or the way you celebrate Christmas look like?

What would you want your Holidays to look like and feel like?

Here’s my idea of Christmas and the reality of how I still attempt to celebrate it ….

Earlier in another life, I lived in Bavaria, in a place where people were more important than the money or the gift. I cherished the way Christmas was celebrated.

Gifts were something given in your shoes as you left them outside your flat or home on the Eve of St. Nicholas – December 6th. These gifts were generally nuts, candy, oranges – something useful and festive.

On Christmas Eve, this was the day to cut down your Christmas tree, dripping still with new fallen snow and trimmed to go into the stand and be adorned by all to Christmas carols, with real candles and a few bobbles. Candles to be lit in the evening, after a family and friends shared meal, after midnight Mass and walking home through the snow in joyful reverence.

No stockings, no expensive gift giving, practical gifts might be exchanged Christmas morning.  Practical as in a new jacket, pair of boots, scarf or gloves, or perhaps something homemade. One year, my daughter made me a tie-dyed silk scarf (I cherish this and still wear it today).

This Christmas Eve, I share this story that it might live on and give one pause, that Christmas is more than the gift-giving.

This year my husband and I, gave gifts to organizations that were near and dear to us, MANNA Foodbank, World Vision, Next Step Recovery, Gratefulness.org, Hospice, St. Jude’s. We asked that others not give us the gift of things, rather, make a donation to one of their favorite organizations. We baked, traveled a bit to see relatives and friends, share a meal and walk through the woods sharing stories and loving each other.

Tomorrow is Christmas Day, and God-willing, we will attend Mass in the morning to celebrate Christmas singing hymns of joy. A time for silent reflection and another walk in the woods. A time to visit more family and friends. Perhaps bring a traditional dish to share – like spefe-his and Lebkuchen.

May your Holidays be what you want in your heart!

Liebe immer and Peace to all in the days and year that follow!
